2 Things I Wish I Knew As A Beginner Photographer
--
Passion doesn’t pay the bills.
Now, there are lots of books out there in the stores that talk about passion and most of these “millionaires” who wrote these books about passion and or self help became millionaires probably by publishing that book. These are some who become best sellers by buying their own books. I laughed pretty hard when I realized this.
I’m not saying there aren’t some people who are millionaires and are passionate about what they did. What I’m saying is that their kind are rare. Being passionate is not the norm, it is the exception. You reading this now have struggled to make money with your “passion” because you’ve been told by some guru on YouTube that when you follow your passion, you will not have to work a day in your life.
The moment it starts making you money, it becomes work. This is what most people have known. Anyway, I’m not going to spend much time here. I’m looking forward to write a separate article or even series on passion for you, to understand what it truly means.
Not treating photography as a business.
Right now, you are probably doing this. You are not treating photography as a business. You know when you start out, it’s this feeling, this desire to want to do this so much, so freely without boundaries, until you wish to monetize. Let’s face the real world. This is not some YouTube bull-crap. this is real life. /
Not treating photography as a business is what gets most people out of it in the first place. Why? Because it looks unprofitable. If you are doing this as a hobby, great! Go on. Don’t stop. Enjoy the process. But if you are doing this one day in the hopes that this becomes a business, start thinking like one.
Find your niche, specialize, build your portfolio and hit publish. Make the world see your work and let everyone know you are in business.
Every day we learn new things and there is nothing more satisfying than the process of learning. Life always throws chances. You only need to grab the right opportunity.
